It comprises the European Central Bank (ECB) and the national central banks (NCBs) of the EU member states that have adopted the euro. From 1 January 2026 the euro area comprises twenty-one countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain . The United Kingdom was a member of the European Union from 1973 to 2020. The European System of Central Banks (ESCB) is made up of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the national central banks (NCBs) of 27 EU Member States ( Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia…
